Updawg Emergency Evacuation Plan

The safety of every pet in our care is our highest priority. If Updawg is affected by a wildfire, natural disaster, or any emergency requiring evacuation, we will implement the following procedures:

Level 1

If an evacuation appears possible, we will:

  • Closely monitor emergency alerts and official guidance.

  • Contact parents of boarding pets with updates.

  • Prepare emergency supplies, medications, food, leashes, and records. Travel bags of dry food will be made in a Ziplock for each animal.

Level 2

If officials recommend evacuation:

  • We will make every reasonable effort to begin relocating pets before conditions worsen whenever it is safe to do so.

  • We will first contact pet parents to arrange pickup whenever practical.

  • If pet parents cannot be reached or cannot safely travel, Updawg will begin transporting pets to our designated emergency location.

Level 3

If a mandatory evacuation is ordered:

  • Staff will immediately evacuate every pet using our emergency transport procedures.

  • Each pet will travel with identification, medications, a travel bag of food, and feeding instructions. Larger possessions such as bedding will remain behind.

  • Pet parents will be notified as soon as practical regarding where their pet has been relocated. This will occur via text and app first, to keep lines free for emergency handling.

  • Staff safety and pet safety will both remain priorities. If it is safe for our staff to do so, we will never intentionally leave a pet behind.

Please understand that communication may be delayed if cellular networks or power are affected.

Owner Responsibility

We ask owners to:

  • Keep emergency contact information current.

  • Provide an alternate emergency contact authorized to make decisions and pick up your pet.

  • Keep vaccination and medication information up to date.

  • Check their pets in with collars or harnesses that contain identifying information.

We hope this plan is never needed. By preparing in advance, we can respond quickly, protect every pet in our care, and keep families informed throughout an emergency.
